Has the free market corroded moral values?

Listened to a (French) Professor Levy on this morning’s Today Programmme vehemently express his view (which I strongly agree with) that on the contrary it is the entire lack of moral values that has corroded the free market. He cites the present ‘credit crunch’ as a fine example of the inherent greed and utter selfishness of the bankers who traded their toxic mortgages for personal gain.

The learned professor suggests that commerce should remain free, but that firm ground-rules need to be set in order to impose limits upon the corrupted moral values that come easily to the fore in this secular world. Again I agree with him.
