Is golf really a sport?
2008 August 3
Let’s begin inconsequentially with this first entry.
Trudging around the golf course at Palm HIlls with Leo in the early morning light we came across a solitary player accompanied by one of the club’s (female) caddies whose job it was to lug the whole caboodle of clubs around while this youngish man concentrated on the occasional hit. Call this a sport? It’s about as sporting as darts!
Golfers here either have a caddy – I call them, ‘the walking wounded’, or else an electric golf cart, plus a caddy, categorised as – ’the handicapped’. Anyone for tennis?
